Indeed, on Friday April 14, 2023, Rappel Conso wanted to make it known on its site that buckwheat flour that was in Biocoop stores, of the brand of the sign, should not be consumed. This concerns buckwheat flour, sold between March 24 to April 14, 2023.

In fact, a level of ochratoxin A has been found « exceeds the regulations in force » in these products. For those who don’t know, the OTA is a “naturally produced mycotoxin” and who « shape during storage drying of agricultural products ». Note that last year, the European Union set a new rate for foodstuffs.

In addition, the European Food Safety Authority also says on its site that “new data made available since the last assessment in 2006 suggest that OTA may be genotoxic by directly damaging DNA. Experts have confirmed that it may also be carcinogenic to the kidney”.

Thus, if you have purchased buckwheat flour from any of the Biocoop stores between this designated date, we recommend that you do not eat it. The best thing is to bring it back to where you bought it so that you can be reimbursed. Please note that the deadline for reimbursement is June 14, 2024.

What are the different types of flour?
