I superbatteri o batteri resistenti a diversi antibiotici rappresentano attualmente un

Gli antibiotici vengono prescritti quando si ha un’infezione batterica più grave o potenzialmente pericolosa. Tuttavia, il loro uso costante rende i batteri più resistenti, poiché “si abituano” al medicinale.

« In questo contesto, abbiamo sviluppato un metodo che utilizza biosensori che determina l’identificazione simultanea dell’inibizione della crescita e del meccanismo d’azione, come il danno al DNA, il danno alla membrana o alla parete cellulare, nonché l’inibizione della sintesi proteica », spiega Estela Ynés Valencia Morante, dell’Istituto di Scienze Biomediche, una delle ricercatrici del brevetto sviluppato dall’USP.

Come funziona il metodo sviluppato dall’USP

  • Attraverso l’analisi genomica di alcuni funghi e batteri, sono stati scoperti cluster di geni per la biosintesi degli antibiotici – cioè che potrebbero essere suscettibili all’azione combattiva dell’antibiotico – che ampliano le possibilità di creare nuovi composti antimicrobici.
  • “La tecnologia è un test funzionale che utilizza una strategia chimico-genetica per identificare le molecole antimicrobiche inibendo la crescita e, contemporaneamente, determinando il loro bersaglio molecolare d’azione come: danno al DNA, inibizione dei ribosomi o danno alla membrana/parete cellulare. Pertanto, i biosensori batterici funzionano come uno strumento che fornisce dati veloci, è semplice da implementare ed è a basso costo”, osserva Felipe Chambergo Alcalde, della Scuola di Arti, Scienze e Studi Umanistici dell’USP, anche lui ricercatore di brevetti.
  • Viene utilizzato principalmente contro ceppi di batteri come Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, tra gli altri, secondo Jornal da USP.
  • “Questa tecnologia ridurrà il tempo necessario per scoprire un antibiotico analizzando un numero maggiore di campioni naturali o sintetici, con applicazioni nel campo della salute umana, naturale o vegetale. Intendiamo miniaturizzare la tecnologia per l’identificazione microbica su larga scala”, afferma Ynés.
  • Il brevetto è direttamente correlato all’obiettivo di sviluppo sostenibile “Salute e benessere” delle Nazioni Unite.
