David Hallyday, a difficult page to turn

David Hallyday is the first son of the great star Johnny Hallyday. As such, he had a very special relationship with his father. Even if the latter was able to have three daughters thereafter, her son never stopped admiring and loving her. And this, even until the very end where he wanted to see him, but without power. Indeed, the death of Johnny Hallyday was a real tragedy for his family, but also for France. By disappearing, the artist left behind many mourners, starting with his son.

David Hallyday knew very well that his father was in Marnes La Coquette when his life was ending. And though he tried many times to see her, the medical team obviously rejected his requests. What leave a bitter taste to this son in mourning against his mother-in-law who, for him, is at fault for these refusals. And the mourning did not seem easier because of the trial which for many months opposed David Hallyday and his sister Laura Smet against their mother-in-law, Laeticia Hallyday.

A nice project

But wisdom of the age or just acceptance of the facts, David Hallyday now seems ready to open his heart and his memories to leave a trace. Indeed, he is about to explain his intimacy, his thoughts and his anxieties to anyone who wants to watch his documentary co-produced by Paul Belmondo. The latter will be broadcast on April 3 on Canal + Docs. With Télé 7 Jours he confides:

Paul had told me that lots of young artists made this kind of documentary. I was all the more legitimate to talk about my career… With the idea to leave a trace for my descendants”.

And in this documentary, David Hallyday does not hesitate to talk about everything that could count in his life. From his father, through music or even the relationship with his stepfather. It therefore remains a very intimate project which, according to him, will allow leave a trace for his descendants. Especially since her daughter was recently able to give birth to her first child.

A son’s confession

Thus, David Hallyday was able to go to the microphone of Culture Media. The opportunity for him to speak to promote his various projects. In particular, he was able to talk about the documentary which touches on the question of his father.

The relationship with his father is always something quite animal in the end. We are in competition with his father when we are small. We try to do as well… We want to attract the attention of his father”.

He even continues:

Then, throughout your life, you keep a bit of this sort of, no competition, but a challenge in fact.. We also want to be recognized and I think that it is human beings to want to be loved”.

So inevitably the host could have wondered if the choice to make music did not come just to do like his father. What David Hallyday answers:

Not quite ! We are not in competition in the profession. Me, I’m a composer at the base and he is a real performer. I’m more of a composer at first, then I ended up interpreting my songs, but not quite”.

And in the documentary, it seems possible to see Johnny Hallyday giving his son a great gift.

We didn’t see each other often, he was often on tour. It’s true that to try to balance things out a bit, his lack of presence, he came one day with a huge package and in my child’s head, I was thinking of something bad. I thought he was going to send me to the moon, I didn’t want to open the package. I thought it was a rocket”.
