On March 14, 2023, the Institut Curie organized a major cancer awareness campaign. This initiative, called “A daffodil against cancer” aims to save as many people as possible. Michel Cymes took part by bearing witness. On this occasion, the most popular doctor in the PAF recalled the importance of getting tested.

« We must stop being afraid of cancer »
During his speech on Monday March 13, 2023 on RTL, Michel Cymes explained people’s fears about cancer.
“People affected by cancer identify with those they love and that gives them the opportunity to talk about it,” he says.

The 65-year-old doctor also urged the general public to overcome the fear of diagnosis. He recalls that this gives a great chance of recovery. Indeed, 60% of patients can be cured of cancer when diagnosed in time.
“We are afraid of the diagnosis, we are afraid of dying. There is 60% total cure of cancers in France. It is imperative to stop being afraid of cancer,” explains the doctor.
He returned to his personal experience, saying that it was thanks to a diagnosis that he was able to overcome the disease. Indeed, the fact of having been treated in time allowed him toavoiding radiotherapy and chemotherapy sessions.
« When they told me I had cancer, I took the same blow to the head as any patient, but afterwards you have to get up and say to yourself: ‘I would like to be one of the 60% cure, and for that, you have to get tested, ”explains the doctor.
Michel Cymes insists on the importance of screening
Michael Cymes revealed to the general public the truth about his illness in the fall of 2022.
“I needed to digest it and I had a rather special situation at the time, I saw patients in the hospital. And I didn’t want every time I announced cancer to a patient, he would say to me: “ah well, you see what it is, doctor” (…) And then, there is always this side of people who say, “he wants to talk about his cancer to get people talking about him,” he explained.
Being a celebrity therefore greatly influenced the way he communicated about his illness. After a long hesitation, the sexagenarian decided to break the silence, because it could help a lot of people.
« I wanted to talk about it because I thought it could trigger – and it did – a number of debates around the necessary screening, » he concluded.
Michel Cymes clear about antivax
The words of Alexandra Henrion-Caude were not at all to Michel Cymes’ taste. The geneticist has, in fact, affirmed that vaccination against Covid-19 would cause certain cancers.
Alexandra Henrion-Caude became a figurehead of antivax since a while. And this, thanks to various positions in the media and social networks. This assures anyone who will listen that vaccines cause « turbo-cancers ».
Many researchers specializing in cancer research have repeatedly criticized this woman’s claims. Michel Cymes also strongly criticized the geneticist.
“I am diving back into the Covid period, where we invited doctors who told nonsense. We know it today. Doctors who for some were conspiratorial and for others thought they were Pasteur because they thought they had found the anti-Covid treatment. These doctors have been invited to all the media, it’s a real scandal, ”reacts Michel Cymes to the antenna of RTL.
The doctor also suggested thatwe no longer give a platform to Alexandra Henrion-Caude and the antivax. He believes that this can confuse the most naive people.
“We must stop giving voice to antivax. They manage to influence people who can be influenced, who no longer know where they stand. We must stop giving voice to these antivax which are doing a lot of harm to medicine in France, ”explains the doctor.
