The Hollywood Reporter broke the news this Monday that Reynolds, in association with Alf creator Paul Fusco and Shout! With the announcement, Reynolds shared a few words about what his intentions are with these segments and why they chose Alf as the main star:

“At Maximum Effort, we love taking risks and blurring the lines between shows and sponsorship because we believe both can be equally entertaining. Besides my irrational love of ALF growing up, one of the reasons we licensed this show was precisely because Paul, Shout! Studios and our intrepid brand partners wanted to plot with us to bring ALF back to life. Tune in this Caturday!”

Maximum Effort was co-founded by the Deadpool star and George Dewey, and the name of the company references one of the popular lines the Merc with a Mouth says in the first film. The production house has been behind several projects mixing television, cinema and publicity with brands such as Aviation Gin or Mint Mobile.

Warner Bros. Television Distribution

Alf run at NBC from 1986 to 1990 for four seasons and a total of 102 episodes, with a sequel movie released exclusively on television in 1996 to wrap up the story after the several negative comments the finale of the show received.

The story centered on the Tanner family, whose normal life gets suddenly interrupted when an alien life form (ALF) crushes with its spaceship on their garage. Since that moment, everything changes forever since they’ll have to find a way to help Alf rebuild his spaceship to be able to return to his home planet, Melmac. The episodes mostly followed the everyday life of Alf while living with the Tanners and trying to adapt to human’s lifestyle.

The comedy series starred Paul Fusco as the voice of the titular alien, Max Wright as William Tanner, Anne Shedeen as Kate Tanner, Andrea Elson as Lynn Tanner, Benji Gregory as Brian Tanner, John Lamotta as Trevor Ochmonek, Liz Sheridan as Raquel Ochmonek, and Anne Meara as Dorothy Halligan among many others.

Back in 2018. Warner Bros. Pictures announced they were developing an Alf reboot, but that project never moved forward. In February 2022, Shout! Studios acquired the rights and confirmed they were going to create some new content related to Alf, which is finally happening now they have associated with Maximum Effort.
