Stephen Amell Is Against the Actors Strike

It seems like not every single actor in Hollywood is okay with the current strike. Stephen Amell, star of Arrow and Heels, is against the methods the union is using to demand a better contract and regulations against the use of Artificial Intelligence.

It’s been a long few months since the writers begun their strike to claim for better working conditions, and earlier this month SAG-AFTRA joined the WGA, paralyzing many productions of upcoming projects, both from cinema and television. Of course, this creates a huge problem for everyone at the industry, and not every actor that’s part of the union is on board with the current strike. And Stephen Amell is one of them.

At a recent presentation at Galaxycon (via Deadline), Amell shared his opinion on the current situation, offering an unexpected point of view:

“I support my union, I do, and I stand with them, but I do not support striking, I don’t. I think it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. And I think the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I’m on [Heels], that premiered last night, I think it’s myopic.”

Heels returned to the Starz screen this past weekend, and that’s probably why the actor seems so frustrated about the strike, since he hasn’t been able to do any promotion for the show or even share anything about it on social media, as it is not permitted for actors to promote things during the strike.

After a very well received first season, especially from wrestling fans, Heels started working on a second season right away, and it is finally out. Amell is back as Jack Spade after the explosive season one finale. Things with his brother are worse than ever, but the popularity of their wrestling company is at its top.

Ace, played by Alexander Ludwig, leaves the company behind and one of the competitors goes after him, which would mean Jack and Ace would be fighting against each other like never before. The second season will be filled with family drama, but wrestling will once again take the center of the stage, because that’s definitely what fans actually want to see on a show like Heels.

The series also stars Alison Luff, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Chris Bauer, Trey Tucker, Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton García, David James, Joel Murray, CM Punk, AJ Méndez, Josh Segarra, and Emmy Raver-Lampman.

Heels is the biggest project Amell has been part of since Arrow, the acclaimed The CW series that kicked off the Arrowverse and ended in 2020, after they managed to adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths, one of the most popular events within the DC Comics, if not the most relevant one in the company’s history.
